You mean the "Tadaima"/"Okaeri" scene at the end? That was just her welcoming him home. The last episode being "Next Season", having a song about a failed romance("Hatsukoi"), and the general lesson of Kyouichi's that he didn't need to be in a romantic relationship with her to always be near her as a friend…this seems to tell me otherwise. That and her cheating on Kyouchi with that college guy(perhaps even sleeping with him) just takes away from the legitimacy of her feelings for him.
what surprised me was that at the end Kyouichi was the only one at the end was left without a partner, and it's rare when that happens to the main protagonist in a series. So I like it because was unexpected. There willnt be a season 2 i guess,if you wanna continue you must read the manga.
I've watch boys be around early 2001-2003 on axn Philippines when I was in highschool. Now it's 2022 and I'm listening to Aki Maeda's songs from Boys be anime. I miss my highschool days. I wanna time travel

I've read the manga and it has nothing to do with the anime's story(though, some of the stories are familiar…they probably inspired the anime a bit).

BOYS BE is one of a kind. I think only Hatsukoi Limited came close to its theme and flair. And this is an anime from 18 years ago.
