The Hiroshima Round Table met to discuss issues such as nuclear arms reduction. After their two-day session, ending on July 13, they issued a statement expressing their concern over heightened reliance on nuclear deterrence
caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Hiroshima Governor Hidehiko Yuzaki was among the eighteen members in attendance at the Hiroshima Round Table, which included participants from five countries, such as Japan and the US. The roundtable was held privately for two days and ended on July 13.
On the 13th, they issued a Round Table Chair’s Statement, which expressed strong concern over heightened reliance on nuclear deterrence, which uses nuclear weapons to deter others from using nuclear weapons, caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The statement also seeks for nuclear-weapon states to adhere to No First Use.
It also uses the issue of Taiwan’s political status as an example and states that a nuclear standoff between the US and China must be avoided.
The Chair’s Statement will be sent to all 191 member states of the NPT before the NPT Review Conference,
to be held beginning on August 1 in New York.
核軍縮などについて議論する『ひろしまラウンドテーブル』は、７月１３日 ２日間の会議を終え、ロシアによるウクライナ侵攻が「核抑止力」への期待感を高めてしまったことに強い懸念を表明し閉会しました。
『ひろしまラウンドテーブル』は湯崎知事など、日本やアメリカなど５カ国から１８人が参加し、7月１３日まで２日間の日程で非公開で行われました。
１３日に発表された議長声明は、ロシアによるウクライナ侵攻の影響で 核兵器の脅威を核兵器によって抑え込む「核抑止力」への期待感が高まったことに強い懸念を示しました。また、全ての核保有国に対し、核兵器の先制不使用を求めるとともに、台湾の主権を巡る問題を例にあげ、特に アメリカと中国は核による対立を避けるべきと言及しています。
議長声明は 8月１日からアメリカ・ニューヨークで開かれるＮＰＴ＝核拡散防止条約再検討会議に先立ち１９１の締約国に送られます。
